ABM PEW REFLECTIONS - Sunday October 13th 2013
The Psalmist says that God has brought us into a place of liberty. Freedom makes strange sounds in an empty stomach. Liberty comes in chains for the oppressed. Freedom is dying while we are still fully alive.
Today’s question:       Can I walk freely in the dark corners of my soul, unafraid?
Prayer:      - Lord, give me light to reduce the darkness that encircles my soul.
- Give thanks for the work and witness of the Amity Foundation, ABM’s Partner in China.

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS - Sunday October 6th 2013
“The meaning is in the waiting” says the Welsh poet-priest R.S. Thomas. So does Jeremiah: “The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.” Theologians write about God: saints see God in their souls. Jesus “waited quietly” and saw God clearly for all of us.
Today’s Question:  Stopping still is tough. Waiting for God makes for endless minutes. Why stop and why wait? Who am I waiting for?
Prayer:  I pray for silence in speech and a communicative heart.

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS - Sunday September 29th 2013
St Michael and All Angels
These visions of heaven might seem to belong in a fantasy film rather than the Bible. Yet each attempts to explain the unexplainable and each, borne out of suffering, aims at giving hope and consolation. Yet Nathaniel’s vision of heaven was apparently simple: he recognised the Son of God in a stranger from Nazareth. God gives us glimpses of his glory in unlikely ways.

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS – Sunday August 25th
Today’s readings offer images of fear and comfort: Jeremiah, afraid of his calling but comforted by being intimately known to God; the Psalmist finding refuge from turmoil; Hebrews’ threatening references to the “consuming fire” offset by the “kingdom that cannot be shaken” and Jesus, the realisation of that unshakeable kingdom, the refuge, the one who knows our every need.
Today’s question: Are my prayers driven by fear and what I think I need, rather than trust in God who knows me better than I know myself?
Prayer: My maker, release me from the bondage of fear and draw me into the comfort of your presence.

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS: 4th SUNDAY OF EASTER 14th APRIL
On this day, sometimes referred to as Good Shepherd Sunday, Jesus is shown to be the faithful shepherd of those who accept and follow him. God does not exclude but those who do not believe in Jesus have cut themselves off, even from eternal life.
Today’s question: Are we listening and hearing Jesus’ voice?
Pray that we may reach out in love to those outside the fold of the Church.

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS: 3RD SUNDAY OF EASTER 14th APRIL
A post-Resurrection event centred on the Sea of Galilee reminiscent of Luke’s account of the calling of Peter, Andrew, James and John and the overwhelming haul of fish on that occasion. God’s great generosity is seen not only in the magnanimous catch but in the restoration of Peter after his threefold denial of Jesus.
Today’s question: Can we fully accept Jesus’ forgiveness when conscious of failing him?
Pray that we may bring healing to anyone burdened by guilt – God’s reconciling love.

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS
The Baptism of our Lord – Sunday 13th January 2013
Isaiah 43.1-7; Psalm 29; Acts 8.14-17; Luke 3.15-22

Heaven and earth collide in this cosmic event. The Son is strengthened by the Holy Spirit and audibly confirmed by the Father. Like Baptism, in the Eucharist we participate in a cosmic event, joining with angels and archangels, singing Holy, Holy, Holy, and are strengthened by the Sacrament.

Today’s question: Is God pleased with me as a baptised disciple of Christ?
Pray for strength so that I may be strong when my faith is challenged.
