ABM PEW REFLECTIONS – SUNDAY OCTOBER 26, 2014
When tested by a religious leader, Jesus summarizes the whole of religious observance in two commands: love for God and love for one’s neighbour. These are not new commands; in fact, they come from the law of Moses. But this teaching, and the example of Christ’s life, sets forth a challenge that lasts a lifetime. Loving God and loving our neighbours takes all the effort we can muster every day—and more.

ABM Pew Reflections:  Sunday 5 October 2014
In today’s Gospel lesson, Jesus tells a rather stark and unflinching story about failure to do the duty entrusted to us. In the story, we are reminded that possession of a heritage or a status is not nearly as important as being a ‘people that produces the fruits of the kingdom’. This passage has a history of being interpreted and applied in detrimental ways, but it can serve as a helpful reminder to the church – as the people of God – that our election is not an entitlement to keep the fruit for ourselves.

***HELP NEEDED***
Lorraine needs to have a minor operation on her right wrist, hopefully during the school holidays (Sept 22 – Oct 3).  This will put her ‘out of action’ with the computer for approximately 4 – 6 weeks.  We will need help to produce the weekly Pew Sheet and to take Vestry Minutes for the October Vestry meeting (Oct 9).  Please, if you can use a computer, consider helping out with either of these tasks.  Lorraine will be around to offer assistance, but will be unable to do the actual job!

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS: Sunday May 11
As in the early church, ministry of pastoral care is a foundation of our life as a community of faith. Pastoral Care includes an emphasis on a gathered community, the offering of compassion and empathy and the leadership of people who care. Our engagement in pastoral care is as strong as our relationships with each other. Our common life and mutual care is expressed in the companionship of the table where bread is broken and in the foundations of a spiritual house where we are living stones.

Pastoral care can result in both personal empowerment and social advocacy for positive change. Jesus is both the Good Shepherd and the Gate of the Sheep. Jesus gives us access to what we need to be a genuine community of faith as we listen to his voice and know him as the true source of our salvation and our wellbeing. This ultimately leads to fullness of life in Christ and with each other as companions and living stones in God’s house.
