WELCOME
A very warm welcome to everyone who has come to worship at Holy Trinity this Christmas season to celebrate the birth of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  May the joy of Christmas remain with you all.

ANGLICARE CHRISTMAS TOY AND FOOD APPEAL
Please support the Anglicare Toy and Food Appeal by donating non-perishable food items and new toys.  A basket for donations is next to the front table. Anglicare were so grateful for our offerings last year - let’s see if we can once again make some meaningful donations to support children and families who are ‘doing it tough’ this Christmas.

CHRISTMAS BOWL APPEAL
The annual Christmas Bowl Appeal is Australia’s longest running ecumenical appeal.  The Christmas Bowl provides an opportunity for Australians to stand by and support women, men and children around the world who are living through conflict and displacement and experiencing dreadful hardship and suffering.  Please consider supporting this very worthy cause – perhaps a donation equal to the cost of a Christmas dinner meal?  Envelopes are available in the pews.

ANGLICAN BOARD OF MISSION – ABM
Use the envelopes provided to make a donation this Christmas.  Gifts may be given through the collection plate.

PARISH COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS – Sunday October 25
Perhaps the most difficult thing in the Christian’s life is to submit to the will of God and to acknowledge God’s sovereignty over all. Few of us will suffer what Job suffered, but his story serves to illustrate that our challenges are not without purpose nor is our perseverance in our faith and trust in God without recognition. Even the blind man had to call out to Jesus twice before he was healed!

“When we journey without the Cross, when we build without the Cross, when we profess Christ without the Cross, we are not disciples of the Lord, we are worldly.  We may be bishops, priests, cardinals, popes, but not disciples of the Lord….”

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS – SUNDAY OCTOBER 11
Do I own my possessions or do my possessions own me? In responding to the young man’s question of what he must do to inherit eternal life, Jesus strikes at the core of what separates this man of great wealth from experiencing fully the Kingdom of God. Not only is he unwilling to make the trade-off, he is unwilling to change his ways. What separates us from the love of God?

“Ours is not a ‘lab faith’, but a ‘journey faith’, an historical faith.  God has revealed himself as history, not as a compendium of abstract truths…  You cannot bring home the frontier, but you have to live on the border and be audacious….”

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS – SUNDAY OCTOBER 4
As Jesus moves further afield, his teachings, yet again, come under the scrutiny of those preoccupied with legalisms. Seeking to drive a wedge between his teachings and those of the Jewish Torah and of the state, they test him. In his retort, Jesus affirms the equality of women and men and the sanctity of their union as grounded in creation. Legalisms can be restrictive and lead to exclusion whereas the love of God transcends human boundaries. Jesus drives home the point by rebuking his disciples for their exclusion of the little children and His welcoming of them with open arms.

The last verse of today’s psalm (May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer) is often used as a pre-sermon prayer. Yet it is a prayer not just for preachers but for all of us to use daily – to help us to ensure our words and thoughts are always godly.

Over the next weeks one of Pope Francis’ sayings will be included in the weekly Pew Sheet.  The following is this week’s contribution:
“In calling you God says to you: ‘You are important to me, I love you, I am counting on you’.  Jesus says this to each one of us!  Joy is born of that!  The joy of the moment in which Jesus looked at me.  Understanding and hearing this is the secret of our joy.  Feeling loved by God, feeling that for him we are not numbers but people; and we know that it its he who is calling us…”

PEW REFLECTIONS
– July 12, 2015

In her famous prayer, St Teresa of Ávila reminds us that Christ has no body but ours, no hands, no feet on earth but ours. The Psalmist tells us that the ‘earth is the Lord’s’ and so we have a duty to care for it as we are God’s agents – the Body of Christ here on earth. We need to improve our stewardship and strive to live sustainably.

ABM Pew Reflections – Sunday June 28
There is unexpected freedom for Peter in the reading from Acts ‘the chains fell off his wrists’ yet for Paul he is already being poured out as libation. There is freedom, there are times of weary extension, but both are in God’s hands. God’s curious freedom will even take us to places we would rather not go.

ABM PEW REFLECTIONS – SUNDAY 7 JUNE 2015
The great desire for a King of Israel will one day end in disappointment and tragedy for Saul. This Samuel can already discern.
In the Gospel reading the crowds are gathering around Jesus but controversy comes from the scribes from Jerusalem. Typically Jesus comes into conflict with established power structures.
Pray for those who have power and authority and for imagination to exercise power in new ways.

EXCERPT FROM ‘SAINT PATRICK’S BREASTPLATE’
(Lyrics traditionally attributed to St Patrick – 5th Century)

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same.
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of Whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.

Thank you to all who helped make our Christmas Festival so enjoyable, the church looks wonderful dressed for Christmas. Many people made a special effort to help us to celebrate and to welcome visitors to Holy Trinity.

CHURCH GIVING
As we will not be receiving the monthly rent from the Vicarage for the time being it is vacant our finances are severely stretched !
Please give generously and regularly to the parish. Use the ADF Giving scheme. Pray that our future plans will not be thwarted because of the lack of funds !
